Entering/Viewing Greek Chars in Text File

When editing a text file for Greek vocabulary, how does one go about displaying the vocabulary, etc. in Greek chars? I've installed the Teknia Greek font, however, the chars still show up as Latin chars. I'm using the Win32 edition. (It would be nice if the Mac version could be ported to *nix.)
