By this we know that we love (agapōmen | ἀγαπῶμεν | pres act ind 1 pl) the children of God: whenever we (agapōmen | ἀγαπῶμεν | pres act subj 1 pl) love (agapōmen | ἀγαπῶμεν | pres act subj 1 pl) God and obey his commandments.
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) the father loves (agapa | ἀγαπᾷ | pres act ind 3 sg) his child.
And the commandment we have from him is this: the one who loves (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) God must also love (agapa | ἀγαπᾷ | pres act subj 3 sg) his brother.
If someone says, “I love (agapō | ἀγαπῶ | pres act ind 1 sg) God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) who (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) does (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) not love (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) his brother whom he has seen, cannot love (agapan | ἀγαπᾶν | pres act inf ) God whom he has not seen.
No one has ever seen God. If we love (agapōmen | ἀγαπῶμεν | pres act subj 1 pl) one another, God abides in us, and his love has achieved its goal in us.
Dear friends, if God loved (ēgapēsen | ἠγάπησεν | aor act ind 3 sg) us like that, we also ought to (agapan | ἀγαπᾶν | pres act inf ) love (agapan | ἀγαπᾶν | pres act inf ) one another.
In this is love, not that we have loved (ēgapēkamen | ἠγαπήκαμεν | perf act ind 1 pl) God but that he loved (ēgapēsen | ἠγάπησεν | aor act ind 3 sg) us and sent his Son as a propitiation for our sins.
The person (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) who (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) does (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) not love (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) does not know God, because God is love.
Dear friends, let us love (agapōmen | ἀγαπῶμεν | pres act subj 1 pl) one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves (agapōn | ἀγαπῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) has been born of God and knows God.
