Upon seeing Jesus, Herod was very glad, since for a long time he had been wanting to see him, because of what he had heard (akouein | ἀκούειν | pres act inf ) about him, and he was hoping to see some miraculous sign done by him.
Now when (akousas | ἀκούσας | aor act ptcp nom sg masc) Pilate heard (akousas | ἀκούσας | aor act ptcp nom sg masc) this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.
Then they said, “What further need do we have of a witness? we (ēkousamen | ἠκούσαμεν | aor act ind 1 pl) have (ēkousamen | ἠκούσαμεν | aor act ind 1 pl) heard (ēkousamen | ἠκούσαμεν | aor act ind 1 pl) it ourselves from his own lips.”
When you hear (akousēte | ἀκούσητε | aor act subj 2 pl) of wars and rebellions, do not be terrified, for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.”
He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When they heard (akousantes | ἀκούσαντες | aor act ptcp nom pl masc) this, they said, “Surely not!”
As they were listening (akouontōn | ἀκουόντων | pres act ptcp gen pl masc) to this, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.
