After hoisting it up, they passed cables under the ship to hold it together. Then, fearing (phoboumenoi | φοβούμενοι | pres pass ptcp nom pl masc) that they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor, and thus they let the ship be driven along.

And when the argument became violent, the commanding officer, afraid (phobētheis | φοβηθείς | aor pass ptcp nom sg masc) that Paul would be torn apart by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him away from among them by force and bring him into the barracks.

Immediately those who were about to examine him drew back from him; and the commanding officer was afraid (ephobēthē | ἐφοβήθη | aor pass ind 3 sg), realizing that Paul was a Roman citizen and that he had bound him.

And the Lord said to Paul during the night in a vision, “Do (phobou | φοβοῦ | pres pass imperative 2 sg) not be afraid (phobou | φοβοῦ | pres pass imperative 2 sg), but go on speaking and do not be silent,

The constables reported these words to the magistrates. And they were afraid (ephobēthēsan | ἐφοβήθησαν | aor pass ind 3 pl) when they heard that they were Roman citizens.

“My brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear (phoboumenoi | φοβούμενοι | pres pass ptcp voc pl masc) God, it is to us that the message of this salvation has been sent.

So Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand, said, “Men of Israel and you who fear (phoboumenoi | φοβούμενοι | pres pass ptcp voc pl masc) God, listen:

but in every nation anyone who fears (phoboumenos | φοβούμενος | pres pass ptcp nom sg masc) him and does what is right is acceptable to him

And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright man and one who fears (phoboumenos | φοβούμενος | pres pass ptcp nom sg masc) God, who is well spoken of by the whole nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear words from you.”

a devout man and one who feared (phoboumenos | φοβούμενος | pres pass ptcp nom sg masc) God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God continually.
