When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his garments and separated them into four shares (merē | μέρη | acc pl neut), one (meros | μέρος | acc sg neut) share (meros | μέρος | acc sg neut) for each soldier. They also took his tunic, which was seamless, woven from top to bottom as a single piece.
