Greek Word of the Day (BBG)

These words are the vocabulary taught in Basics of Biblical Greek. They are the words occurring 50 times or more in the New Testament. This list is in process of being made. Words are listed in the order they are taught in the textbook. There is a separate listing of words taught in Greek for the Rest of Us.

 

κεφαλή

κεφαλῆς, ἡ (*κεφαλη)

κεφαλή means "head."

"The Son of Man has no place to lay his κεφαλή" (Luke 9:58).

γλῶσσα

γλώσσης, ἡ (*γλωσσα )

γλῶσσα means "tongue, language"

"We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own γλῶσσα!" (Acts 2:11).

στόμα

στόμα means "mouth."

"From his στόμα came a sharp two-edged sword" (Rev 1:16).

σάρξ

σαρκός, ἡ (*σαρκ)

σάρξ means "flesh, body"

"The Word became σάρξ and dwelt among us" (John 1:14).

νύξ

νύξ means “night.”

“After fasting forty days and forty νύξ, he was hungry” (Matt 4:2).
