You have no idea what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are but a mist that appears (phainomenē | φαινομένη | pres pass ptcp nom sg fem) for a brief moment and then disappears.
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not brought into being from anything observable (phainomenōn | φαινομένων | pres mid ptcp gen pl neut).
so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine (phainesthe | φαίνεσθε | pres mid ind 2 pl) like stars in the universe,
Now we pray to God that you may not do anything wrong, not that we would (phanōmen | φανῶμεν | aor pass subj 1 pl) appear (phanōmen | φανῶμεν | aor pass subj 1 pl) as having passed the test, but that you may do what is right even though we may appear as having failed.
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But sin, in order that it might be shown (phanē | φανῇ | aor pass subj 3 sg) to be sin, produced death in me through that which is good so that sin, through the commandment, might be sinful beyond measure
He was a lamp that was burning and giving light (phainōn | φαίνων | pres act ptcp nom sg masc), and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.
