And Peter said to them, “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

So Pilate came outside to them and said (phēsin | φησίν | pres act ind 3 sg), “What accusation are you bringing against this man?”

Then the man said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg), “I believe, Lord,” and he bowed in reverence before him.

He said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg), “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

But the other responded with a rebuke, saying (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg), “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence?

So Pilate asked Jesus, saying, “Are you the king of the Jews?” In response Jesus said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg) “You say so.”

They all said, “Are you, then, the Son of God?” And he said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg) to them, “You say that I am.”

After a little while someone else noticed him and said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg), “You also are one of them.” But Peter said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg), “Man, I am not!”

“Coming to himself, he said (ephē | ἔφη | imperf act ind 3 sg), ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but here I am, dying from hunger!
