At once he took along some soldiers and centurions and ran down to them; and when they saw the commanding (chiliarchon | χιλίαρχον | acc sg masc) officer and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.
And while they were trying to kill him, a report was sent up to the commanding (chiliarchō | χιλιάρχῳ | dat sg masc) officer of the detachment that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his government officials, military (chiliarchois | χιλιάρχοις | dat pl masc) commanders, and prominent men of Galilee.
As she exalted herself and lived in luxury, give her an equal measure of torment and mourning; because in her heart she said, ‘I sit as a queen, I am no widow (chēra | χήρα | nom sg fem), and mourning I will never see.’
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows (chēras | χήρας | acc pl fem) in their time of trouble, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
If any believing woman has widows (chēras | χήρας | acc pl fem), let her care for them, and the church should not be burdened so that it may care for the true widows (chērais | χήραις | dat pl fem).
But the true widow (chēra | χήρα | nom sg fem), who has been left totally alone, has set her hope on God and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day.
