Three times I (parekalesa | παρεκάλεσα | aor act ind 1 sg) pleaded (parekalesa | παρεκάλεσα | aor act ind 1 sg) with (parekalesa | παρεκάλεσα | aor act ind 1 sg) the Lord about this, that it would leave me.
Now I, Paul myself, appeal (parakalō | παρακαλῶ | pres act ind 1 sg) to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ — I who when present am “timid” among you, but when away am “bold” toward you.
Therefore I considered it necessary to urge (parakalesai | παρακαλέσαι | aor act inf ) the brothers to go to you in advance and to arrange beforehand the generous contribution you had previously promised, so that it would be ready as a generous gift and not as something you had to do.
So we urged (parakalesai | παρακαλέσαι | aor act inf ) Titus that just as he had previously begun the work, so now he should complete this act of kindness among you.
Because of this we are encouraged (parakeklēmetha | παρακεκλήμεθα | perf pass ind 1 pl). And in addition to our own encouragement, we rejoiced more than ever at the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.
And not only by his arrival but also by the encouragement with which he was encouraged (pareklēthē | παρεκλήθη | aor pass ind 3 sg) by you, as he reported to us your strong affection, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that I rejoiced more than ever.
But God, who encourages (parakalōn | παρακαλῶν | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) the downcast, encouraged (parekalesen | παρεκάλεσεν | aor act ind 3 sg) us with the arrival of Titus.
Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making (parakalountos | παρακαλοῦντος | pres act ptcp gen sg masc) his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, “Be reconciled to God.”
