Yet it is a new commandment that I write to you, one that is true in him and in you, because the darkness (skotia | σκοτία | nom sg fem) is passing away and the true light is already shining.

Now this is the message that we have heard from him and are proclaiming to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness (skotia | σκοτία | nom sg fem) in him.

The light shines on in the darkness (skotia | σκοτίᾳ | dat sg fem), and the darkness (skotia | σκοτία | nom sg fem) has not understood it.

All that you said in the darkness (skotia | σκοτίᾳ | dat sg fem) will be heard in the light, and what you said in private rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

What I say to you in the darkness (skotia | σκοτίᾳ | dat sg fem), speak in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops.
