Jesus responded, saying to him, “Is it because I told you that I saw you under the fig (sykēs | συκῆς | gen sg fem) tree that you believe? You will see greater things than that.”
Nathanael asked him, “How did you get to know me?” Jesus answered him, saying, “Before Philip called you, while you were still under the fig (sykēn | συκῆν | acc sg fem) tree, I saw you.”
And he said to the vineyard worker, ‘Look, for three years now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig (sykē | συκῇ | dat sg fem) tree, and I find none. Remove it. Why should it use up the soil?’
Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig (sykēn | συκῆν | acc sg fem) tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.
“Now from the fig (sykēs | συκῆς | gen sg fem) tree learn its parable: As soon as its bough becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.
