for they (synēkan | συνῆκαν | aor act ind 3 pl) did (synēkan | συνῆκαν | aor act ind 3 pl) not understand (synēkan | συνῆκαν | aor act ind 3 pl) about the loaves; but their heart was hardened.
so that ‘when they look, they may see yet not perceive, and when they listen, they may hear yet not understand (syniōsin | συνιῶσιν | pres act subj 3 pl); otherwise they might turn and be forgiven.’”
Then they understood (synēkan | συνῆκαν | aor act ind 3 pl) that he had not told them to beware of the leaven of bread but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
As for the one who was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the message and understands (synieis | συνιείς | pres act ptcp nom sg masc) it, who indeed bears fruit and produces, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”
When anyone hears the message of the kingdom and does (synientos | συνιέντος | pres act ptcp gen sg masc) not understand (synientos | συνιέντος | pres act ptcp gen sg masc) it, the evil one comes and snatches away that which was sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.
For the heart of this people has become dull, and with their ears they scarcely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand (synōsin | συνῶσιν | aor act subj 3 pl) with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’
And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled that says: ‘You will surely hear but never understand (synēte | συνῆτε | aor act subj 2 pl), and you will surely see but never perceive.
