A third time he spoke to them, “What evil did this man do? I have found in him no guilt (aition | αἴτιον | acc sg neut) deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”
and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was trying to mislead the people. And indeed, having examined him in your presence, I found no basis (aition | αἴτιον | acc sg neut) for your charges against this man.
for which reason (aitian | αἰτίαν | acc sg fem) even I am suffering these things; but I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have trusted and I am fully convinced that he is able to guard my deposit until that day.
For this reason, therefore, I have asked (aitian | αἰτίαν | acc sg fem) to see you and speak with you, since it is because of the hope of Israel that I wear this chain.”
