but I see a different law in my members; it wages war against the law of my mind and makes me captive (aichmalōtizonta | αἰχμαλωτίζοντα | pres act ptcp acc sg masc) to the law of sin dwelling in my members.
They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive (aichmalōtisthēsontai | αἰχμαλωτισθήσονται | fut pass ind 3 pl) to all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led (ēchmalōteusen | ᾐχμαλώτευσεν | aor act ind 3 sg) a host of prisoners captive (ēchmalōteusen | ᾐχμαλώτευσεν | aor act ind 3 sg); he gave gifts to men.”
If anyone is meant for captivity (aichmalōsian | αἰχμαλωσίαν | acc sg fem), into captivity (aichmalōsian | αἰχμαλωσίαν | acc sg fem) he will go. If anyone is to be killed by the sword, by the sword he will be killed. This calls for the endurance and faithfulness of the saints.
When they are saying, “Peace and security,” it is then that sudden (aiphnidios | αἰφνίδιος | nom sg masc) destruction will come upon them, like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
“But watch yourselves lest your minds be dulled by dissipation and drunkenness and the anxieties of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly (aiphnidios | αἰφνίδιος | nom sg fem),
When he arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing many and serious charges (aitiōmata | αἰτιώματα | acc pl neut) against him, which they were not able to prove.
For indeed we are in danger of being charged in connection with this day’s riot, there being no cause (aitiou | αἰτίου | gen sg neut) for it; and we will not be able to give an explanation for it.” And having said this, he dismissed the assembly.
