They only kept hearing (akouontes | ἀκούοντες | pres act ptcp nom pl masc), “The one who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
For you have heard (ēkousate | ἠκούσατε | aor act ind 2 pl) of my former way of life in Judaism, how intensely I used to persecute the church of God and was trying to destroy it.
For even if I should choose to boast, I would not be foolish, because I would be telling the truth. But I refrain from this, so that no one will give credit to me beyond what he sees in me or he hears (akouei | ἀκούει | pres act ind 3 sg) from me,

But, as it is written, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard (ēkousen | ἤκουσεν | aor act ind 3 sg), nor has the mind of man imagined, the things that God has prepared for those who love him.”
rather, as it is written, “Those who were not told of him will see, and those who (akēkoasin | ἀκηκόασιν | perf act ind 3 pl) have (akēkoasin | ἀκηκόασιν | perf act ind 3 pl) not heard (akēkoasin | ἀκηκόασιν | perf act ind 3 pl) of him will understand.”
as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would (akouein | ἀκούειν | pres act inf ) not hear (akouein | ἀκούειν | pres act inf ), to this very day.”
