“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | voc pl masc), hypocrites, because you are like whitewashed tombs that look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and all kinds of filth.

You blind Pharisee! (pharisaie | φαρισαῖε | voc sg masc) First clean the inside of the cup, so that its outside may become clean too.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | voc pl masc), hypocrites, because you clean off the outside of the cup and the plate while inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | voc pl masc), hypocrites, because you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done without neglecting the former.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | voc pl masc), hypocrites, because you travel over land and sea to gain a single convert; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | voc pl masc), hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.

Now while the Pharisees (Pharisaiōn | Φαρισαίων | gen pl masc) were assembled, Jesus put this question to them:

Now when the Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | nom pl masc) heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they met together

Then the Pharisees (Pharisaioi | Φαρισαῖοι | nom pl masc) went out and plotted how they could trap him in what he said.
