And they threw dust on their heads and cried out as they wept and mourned, saying, “Alas, alas, O great city (polis | πόλις | voc sg fem) by which all who had ships at sea grew rich from her prosperity! For in a single hour she has been brought to ruin.

and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, exclaiming, “What city was ever like the great city?” (polei | πόλει | dat sg fem)

They will lament, “Alas, alas, O great city (polis | πόλις | voc sg fem), clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, glittering with gold, precious stones, and pearls!

They will stand at a distance in fear of her torment, and say, “Alas! Alas! O great city (polis | πόλις | voc sg fem), Babylon the mighty city! (polis | πόλις | voc sg fem) For in a single hour your judgment has come.”

And the woman you saw is the great city (polis | πόλις | nom sg fem) that has dominion over the kings of the earth.”

The great city (polis | πόλις | nom sg fem) was split into three parts, and the cities (poleis | πόλεις | nom pl fem) of the nations fell. So Babylon the great was remembered before God and was given the cup filled with the wine of his fierce anger.

Then the winepress was trodden outside the city (poleōs | πόλεως | gen sg fem), and blood poured out from the winepress, rising to the height of horses’ bridles for a distance of about two hundred miles.

And at that very hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city (poleōs | πόλεως | gen sg fem) fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city (poleōs | πόλεως | gen sg fem), which symbolically is called Sodom, or Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

but exclude the court that is outside the temple; do not measure it because it has been given to the nations. And they will trample the holy city (polin | πόλιν | acc sg fem) for forty-two months.
