For many (polloi | πολλοί | nom pl masc) are living (I have often told you about them but now tell you even with tears) as enemies of the cross of Christ.
So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even (pollō | πολλῷ | dat sg neut) more now in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
I am hard pressed between the two, in that I have the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very better by far (pollō | πολλῷ | dat sg neut),
and that most (pleionas | πλείονας | acc pl masc comparative) of the brothers, having gained confidence in the Lord by my imprisonment, dare more than ever to speak the word of God without fear.
For it is written, “Rejoice, O barren woman, you who bear no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in the pain of childbirth! For the children of the desolate will be more in (polla | πολλά | nom pl neut) number (polla | πολλά | nom pl neut) than those of the woman who has a husband.
Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say, “and to descendants,” referring to many (pollōn | πολλῶν | gen pl neut), but “and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ.
And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many (pollous | πολλούς | acc pl masc) of my own age in the entire nation, being extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.
I am afraid that when I come, my God may again humble me before you, and that I will mourn for many (pollous | πολλούς | acc pl masc) who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and debauchery in which they indulged.
