so that the blood of all the prophets (prophētōn | προφητῶν | gen pl masc), shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,
Indeed, for this reason the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets (prophētas | προφήτας | acc pl masc) and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’
For I tell you that many prophets (prophētai | προφῆται | nom pl masc) and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”
They replied, “John the Baptist; others say, Elijah; still others that one of the ancient prophets (prophētēs | προφήτης | nom sg masc) of old has risen.”
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet (prophētēs | προφήτης | nom sg masc), he would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him — that she is a sinner.”
But what did you go out to see? A prophet (prophētēn | προφήτην | acc sg masc)? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet (prophētou | προφήτου | gen sg masc).
Fear gripped them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet (prophētēs | προφήτης | nom sg masc) has arisen among us!” and, “God has come to help his people!”
Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For their fathers treated the prophets (prophētais | προφήταις | dat pl masc) in the same way.
