who, carrying the (stauron | σταυρόν | acc sg masc) cross (stauron | σταυρόν | acc sg masc) by himself, went out to what was called “The Place of the Skull,” in Hebrew, “Golgotha.”
As they led him away, they took hold of a certain Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the countryside, and put the cross (stauron | σταυρόν | acc sg masc) on him to carry it behind Jesus.
Then he said to all, “If someone wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and let him take up his cross (stauron | σταυρόν | acc sg masc) daily, and let him follow me.
Let the Christ, the king of Israel come down now from the cross (staurou | σταυροῦ | gen sg masc), so that we may see and believe.” And those crucified with him were reviling him.
And they conscripted a certain passerby, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), as he was coming in from the country, to bear his cross (stauron | σταυρόν | acc sg masc).
When he had called the crowd with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone wants to come be my disciple, he must deny himself, take up his cross (stauron | σταυρόν | acc sg masc) and follow me.
“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! Let him now come down from the cross (staurou | σταυροῦ | gen sg masc), and we will believe in him!
and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” (staurou | σταυροῦ | gen sg masc)
