Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | gen sg masc)? So am I.

So I ask, has God repudiated his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | gen sg masc), from the tribe of Benjamin.

neither are they all children of (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | gen sg masc) Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | gen sg masc) because they are his descendants; on the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your descendants will be named.”

For this reason the promise is based on faith, that it may depend on grace and be made certain to all his descendants, not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | gen sg masc), who is the father of us all.

For the promise that he would be heir of the world did not come to Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | dat sg masc) or to his descendants through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

He is also the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | gen sg masc) had while he was still uncircumcised.

Therefore, is this blessedness for the circumcised alone, or is it also for the uncircumcised? For we say, “It was to Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | dat sg masc) that faith was credited as righteousness.”

For what does the scripture say? “And Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | nom sg masc) believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

For if Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | nom sg masc) was justified by works, he has something to boast about (but not before God).

What then shall we say that Abraham (Abraam | Ἀβραάμ | acc sg masc), our forefather according to the flesh, has discovered about this?
