(tr.) to place, seat (someone), appoint; (intr.) to sit down, come to rest upon; stay, live. To sit on the right side means to be in a position of high status, to sit on the left is a lesser position. To sit on the seat of Moses means to have the capacity to interpret the Law of Moses with authority
