Definition
The Abomination of Desolation is a phrase derived from Hebrew, formally, the detestable thing of desolation. This abomination is a person, thing, or event that defiles a holy place and thus causes it to be abandoned, implying God detests this thing or action. Many refer this to desecration of the temple by Antiochus Epiphanes as analogous to a future event predicted by Jesus.
