For we wanted to come to you — I, Paul, time and again — but Satan hindered us (hēmas | ἡμᾶς | acc pl 1st).

As for us (hēmeis | ἡμεῖς | nom pl 1st), brothers, when we were separated from you for a short time — in person but not in heart — we were all the more eager, with intense longing, to see you in person.

who prevent us (hēmas | ἡμᾶς | acc pl 1st) from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved. Their goal has always been to complete the full number of their sins. But God’s wrath has caught up with them at last!

who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have driven us (hēmas | ἡμᾶς | acc pl 1st) out, who are displeasing to God and oppose all mankind,

And for this reason we (hēmeis | ἡμεῖς | nom pl 1st) also constantly thank God, that when you received the word of God which you heard from us (hēmōn | ἡμῶν | gen pl 1st), you accepted it not as a human word, but as it truly is, the word of God, which even now is doing its work in you who believe.

For you recall, brothers, our (hēmōn | ἡμῶν | gen pl 1st) labor and toil. We worked night and day so as not to become a burden to any of you, while proclaiming to you the gospel of God.

So deep was our affection for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but our own selves as well, so dear had you become to us (hēmin | ἡμῖν | dat pl 1st).

but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but God who tests our (hēmōn | ἡμῶν | gen pl 1st) hearts.

For our (hēmōn | ἡμῶν | gen pl 1st) appeal was not based on deceit, nor did it rise from impure motives or by way of trickery,

We had previously suffered and been shamefully treated in Philippi, as you know, but we had the courage in our (hēmōn | ἡμῶν | gen pl 1st) God to declare to you the gospel of God in spite of great opposition.
