“To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire (pyros | πυρός | gen sg neut) and whose feet are like burnished bronze, has this to say:
save others by snatching them out of the fire (pyros | πυρός | gen sg neut); and have mercy on others with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.
Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, which indulged in sexual immorality in the same way as the angels and pursued unnatural desire, are exhibited as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire (pyros | πυρός | gen sg neut).
But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire (pyri | πυρί | dat sg neut), kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
so that the genuineness of your faith (which is more precious than gold that perishes), having been tested by fire (pyros | πυρός | gen sg neut), may be found to your praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Your gold and your silver have rusted and their rust will be a witness against you, and it will consume your flesh like fire (pyr | πῦρ | nom sg neut). You have stored up treasure for the last days.
And the tongue is a fire! (pyr | πῦρ | nom sg neut) The tongue is a world of iniquity among our members; it defiles the whole body, sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.
So also is the tongue a small member, yet it boasts of great things. See how large a forest is set on fire by such a small flame (pyr | πῦρ | nom sg neut).
