By this the love (agapē | ἀγάπη | nom sg fem) of God is revealed to us: that God has sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
Dear friends, let us love one another, because love (agapē | ἀγάπη | nom sg fem) is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
But whoever has this world’s resources and sees his fellow Christian in need yet closes his heart against him, how does the love (agapē | ἀγάπη | nom sg fem) of God abide in him?
By this we have come to know love: (agapēn | ἀγάπην | acc sg fem) that he laid down his life on our behalf. And we are obligated to lay down our lives for the brothers.
See what great love (agapēn | ἀγάπην | acc sg fem) the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God — and so we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
But whoever keeps his word, truly in that person is the love (agapē | ἀγάπη | nom sg fem) of God brought to fulfillment. This is how we can be sure that we are in him:
