Then, since it was the day (paraskeuē | παρασκευή | nom sg fem) of Preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs of the crucified men broken and their bodies taken down.
