See! Behold!
See! Behold!
Forward into battle see His banners go.
Originally ἴδε was an aorist active imperative of εἶδον, but came to be used as a particle. It only occurs 34 times but because of its similarity with the following ἰδοῦ, I thought it best that you learn it. It is used with the same basic meaning as ἰδοῦ.
| John 18:21 | Why do you question me? Question those who have heard as to what I said to them; they know what I said.” |
| John 19:4 | Once more Pilate went out and said to them, “Look (ide | ἴδε | particle), I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no basis for an accusation against him.” |
| John 19:14 | Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover, about noon. Pilate said to the Jews, “Here (ide | ἴδε | particle) is your king!” |
| John 19:26 | When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, look (ide | ἴδε | particle), your son!” |
| John 19:27 | Then he said to his disciple, “Look (ide | ἴδε | particle), your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. |
| John 20:27 | Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and examine (ide | ἴδε | aor act imperative 2 sg) my hands; and reach out your hand, and put it into my side. Do not continue in unbelief, but believe.” |
| Romans 11:22 | Consider (ide | ἴδε | aor act imperative 2 sg) therefore the kindness and the severity of God — severity to those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off. |
| Galatians 5:2 | Listen! (ide | ἴδε | particle) I, Paul, tell you that if you agree to circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. |
