Takes a predicate nominative, like eijmiv. givnomai has a wide range of meaning. We have found it helpful to think in two categories, "to be," or "to come into being." Most uses fall into one of these two groups.
The root is clearly visible outside of the present tense stem. ejgenovmhn is an aorist middle deponent.
