into; in
into; in
Eisegesis is poor hermeneutical practice because it reads a meaning into the text instead of drawing it out of (exegesis) the text.
Changed from glory into glory,
'til in heaven we take our place.
“Jesus was led by the Spirit εἰς the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matt 4:1)
“Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized εἰς the Jordan River by John.” (Mark 1:9)
In classical Greek, there was little overlap in meaning between εἰς ("into") and ἐν ("in"), but in Koine Greek there is more.
| Romans 4:9 | Therefore, is this blessedness for the circumcised alone, or is it also for the uncircumcised? For we say, “It was to Abraham that faith was credited as (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) righteousness.” |
| Romans 4:11 | He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised, so (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) that he would be the father of all who believe but have never been circumcised, that (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) they too might have righteousness credited to them. |
| Romans 4:16 | For this reason the promise is based on faith, that it may depend on grace and be made certain to all his descendants, not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who share the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. |
| Romans 4:18 | Hoping against hope, Abraham believed that (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) he would become the father of many nations according to what had been spoken, “So will your descendants be.” |
| Romans 4:20 | He did not waver in unbelief regarding (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) the promise of God but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, |
| Romans 4:22 | That is why his faith was credited to him as (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) righteousness. |
| Romans 5:2 | through whom we have also obtained access by faith into (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of sharing the glory of God. |
| Romans 5:8 | But God demonstrates his love for (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. |
| Romans 5:12 | Therefore, just as sin came into (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) all because all have sinned —. |
| Romans 5:15 | But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if the many died through the transgression of the one, much more did the grace of God and the gift that came by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflow to (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) the many. |
| Romans 5:16 | And the gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin; for the judgment following the one transgression led (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to condemnation, but the free gift following the many transgressions led (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to justification. |
| Romans 5:18 | Therefore, just as one man’s transgression brought (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) condemnation for (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) all so also one man’s righteous act brought (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) justification and life for (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) all |
| Romans 5:21 | so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness leading (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
| Romans 6:3 | Or do you not know that we who were baptized into (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) Christ Jesus were baptized into (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) his death? |
| Romans 6:4 | Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we might walk in newness of life. |
| Romans 6:12 | Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) that you obey its desires. |
| Romans 6:16 | Do you not know that if you present yourselves to someone as (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to death, or of obedience, which leads (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to righteousness? |
| Romans 6:17 | But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) that pattern of teaching to which you were committed, |
| Romans 6:19 | (I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations.) For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, leading (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to sanctification. |
| Romans 6:22 | But now, freed from sin and enslaved to God, the fruit you get leads (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) to sanctification, and its outcome, eternal life. |
| Romans 7:4 | So then, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ that (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) you might belong to another, to the one who was raised from the dead, so that we might bear fruit for God. |
| Romans 7:5 | For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our bodies to (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) bear fruit for death. |
| Romans 7:10 | and I died. I found that the very commandment that promised (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) life brought (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) death to me! |
| Romans 8:7 | because the mind set on the flesh is hostile to (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) God; it does not submit to the law of God; in fact, it cannot. |
| Romans 8:15 | For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading back to (eis | εἰς | prep-acc) fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption. By him we cry out, “Abba! Father!” |
