A cognate noun of basileiva.
Joy to the world the Lord is come;
let earth receive Her King.
The ευς suffix is often used to describe the person related to the thing described by the noun (e.g., ἁλιεύς, "fisherman"; γραμματεύς, "scribe"; ἱερεύς, "priest"). On the root see page 139n1 and MBG, #27.
