Apollyon, from =Apolluvwn, is the destroying angel in Rev 9:11.
The stem of this verb is *ολ. It belongs to a class of verbs that add ν to the root to form the present tense stem, but the ν assimilates to a λ (cf. MBG, #13 and p. 309). *ολνυ → ολλυ → ὄλλυμι. This is why there is a single λ in the other tenses.
Because ἀπόλλυμι is a compound verb, the α does not augment, but the ο does.
In the present tense this verb follows the athematic conjugation (chapter 34). In the other tenses it follows the thematic conjugation we have been learning so far. You can see this in how it forms its other tense forms.
