For Jesus had commanded (parēngeilen | παρήγγειλεν | aor act ind 3 sg) the unclean spirit to come out of the man; for many times it had seized him and he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.
