Then, since it was the day of Preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (sabbatō | σαββάτῳ | dat sg neut) (for that Sabbath (sabbatou | σαββάτου | gen sg neut) was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs of the crucified men broken and their bodies taken down.
