This is one of the great undiscovered gems in publishing today. Verlyn is the main academic editor at Zondervan, and his task was to abridge the four volume New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology by Colin Brown. He did an exquisite job. This book will give you the correct meanings of words, in their biblical context. It will be more information than the casual reader will want, but just the right amount for the serious student and pastor. It also makes it easy to move from this abridgment to the same entry in the 4 volume set if you want to know more about a word. Your decision will be between this book and Bromiley's abridgment of Kittel.

56208: New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology, Abridged One-Volume Edition

An abridged edition of the New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology, written for those with a limited knowledge of biblical Greek. This book was previously titled The NIV Theological Dictionary of New Testament Words.

This abridgment of Colin Brown’s original four volume work is arranged with its entries in Greek alphabet order, which makes it easy to find the discussion of a particular word. All Greek words are transliterated into English and linked with their Goodrick-Kohlenberger numbers. This book was formerly titled The NIV Theological Dictionary of New Testament Words. Now it has been reset in double columns and wider margins.

The four-volume New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology (NIDNTT) is recognized worldwide as a benchmark in New Testament study. Christianity Today has called it “an essential reference work.” [It] had proved its worth,” says New Testament scholar F.F. Bruce.

This abridged edition distills the critically acclaimed set into one convenient and accessible reference. Over 140 of the world’s finest scholars furnish this resource with vital insights into the meaning of Scripture.
